One of the biggest sources of energy available in rural and agribusiness is biomass. The same appears in the form of plant and animal residues such as crop residues, animal manure, energy crops and agro-industrial effluents. These residues can be used by farmers or agribusiness for direct burning in order to produce heat or biogas production in digesters. On farms where there is the swine breeding activity, the availability of such waste occurs, characterizing a large energy potential. Experiments described in the literature coupled with the use of digesters already installed in several locations, demonstrate a return to the use of biogas abandoned in the early 20th century, when then came the call "oil age" and biomass energy has been largely ignored and relegated.
Rosillo & Calle, (2000).
Thus, the efficient utilization of the thermal energy based on petroleum and coal has been studied intensely, whereas the biomass was abandoned technologically this period (Eletrobrás, 1994).
